Taylor Swift Styling Tips

I applied for a job recently, and one of the questions was: Who is your style inspiration? If you know me at all then you know Lauren Conrad was one of the first names in my head, but who else? I began thinking which celebrities I draw inspiration from, and a surprising name came up. The legendary country music singer and songwriter, Taylor Swift. We all know the woman has the voice of an angel, but have you ever noticed how impeccable she dresses? In a nutshell, her style is about as preppy as it gets, however, lately she has been mixing in boho pieces. The end result is stunning and super inspirational, see below.

What notes can we take from this fashionista?
  • Tartan scarves and tan peacoats look super chic worn with maroon skinnies
  • When in doubt, wear an oxford top and leather mini skirt, especially when you have legs like Taylor Swift. Also, don't forget the ladylike mini purse and bright red lips
  • Bell sleeves are back and look hot with stocky-heeled ankle booties
  • Cognac oxford heels dress up any outfit, including a plaid top and jeans
  • Black and white stripes never go out of style, especially paired with caramel colored corduroy pixie pants
  • Dark red ankle boots add contrast to an all black outfit
  • Scalloped collar on a leopard top, need I say more?!
  • This last note is so important for this fall season, DO try colored ankle boots, especially when the color of your bag coordinates.
What else can we learn from Taylor Swift? Comment below!

OOTD: Office Chic

I have not posted an Outfit of the Day post in a while so how about one? Yesterday I found out some really great news, I received the position that I interviewed for last week! I am so excited because it is only a part time position therefore I do not have to give up blogging; woo hoo! Today I went in for the second part of the interview process, which is when I was told that I would be a good match for the job. First, I decided on these loose fitting harem pants that I bought from Target last Summer. I mentioned them in an earlier post, here, if you want to check it out. I figured they would be perfect because they are silky and comfortable. Next, I chose to wear this fabulous Free People blouse that I found at Belk during a huge sale they were having at the beginning of 2014. At first I wasn't going to wear a jacket because it is so dang hot outside, but ended up grabbing a robins egg blue blazer from Kohl's. It is always better to look more conservative for a business setting rather than casual. Last but not least, I opted for black d'orsay flats from the brand Restricted found via TJ Maxx. These shoes are extremely comfortable, yet stylish and classy, which is exactly what you want for an interview!

Linen Looks

Have you ever noticed that fabrics change with the seasons, and for good reason. Who wants to wear wool in the Summer? I definitely don't. Spring and Summer clothing typically is made of lighter and more breathable fabrics like cotton and linen. Check out some of my favorite linen looks below:

The first linen look comes from one of my favorite fashion bloggers, Sincerely Jules. Black accessories make this look more casual, but opt for white wedges and hat for a clean and fresh look.

Next, is actually a pair of high waisted shorts. I love the way the stylist paired a light colored top to compliment the oatmeal color of the linen shorts. To shop the shorts from Free People click here.

Emily Loke rocks the linen look with a white layered bead necklace and nautical stripes. Check out her Pinterest page here where she posts all her outfit of the day posts via her Instagram feed.

If you're not too keen on the linen look, try adding a linen accessory first.
For instance, check out these fabulous Jackie Lace Espadrille wedges from Tory Burch.

For the working ladies out there, can linen be worn as work wear? ASOS says absolutely yes with this Linen Pencil Skirt with Belt. Try adding a blazer or light sweater to make it work appropriate.

Overall Shorts

Move over high waisted shorts, there's a new (more like old but revamped) trend in town...overalls!
I know a percentage of people just stopped reading this but for those who stuck around: OVERALLS ARE MAKING A COMEBACK IN FASHION, just watch. Vintage inspired fashion bloggers brought this trend back full force, and I do not hate it. Overall shorts are super comfortable and totally acceptable if styled correctly.

For example:
I love how she styled this pair, who knew overalls could be chic? Take notes from this gal and cuff the legs of overalls and add cognac colored booties with a slight heel for an effortlessly stylish look.

Check out this pair of overalls from H&M, and notice the shorts are already cuffed and distressed to modernize them. The best part? These babies are only $29.95; h&m does it again!

Forever 21 sure knows how to attract me, LACE OVERALLS, oh my! I like that these are fitted opposed to slouchy like normal overalls. It adds a completely different vibe-perfect for summer!

Maybe stripes are more your fancy?

Check out these Sassy Stripes Overalls from Mod Cloth

The wash of these Billabong overall shorts is so rad. I can totally see these with a flower crown and a cropped top or a bralette with a cool neckline at a music festival, can you?

What will you wear with your overall shorts this summer? Comment below!

Pencil Pants under $50

I know I have been slacking on blogging lately, but not intentionally. I’ve been so stressed between trying to find an internship, a new house, all the while staying on top of my school work; which has been anything but easy lately. In fact, I saw this quote on twitter that I found totally relatable: “It turns out Hell is less of a place and more of the last half of the semester.” So, that is what I’ve been doing and what I should be doing now…
Instead, lets talk about pencil pants because fashion cannot get enough of them, and I am not sure if I can either. Fashion and fads come and go before most people have the chance to jump on whatever trend is “in style”. Prime example: Late summer/early fall of last year the trend of cuffing skinny jeans popped out of nowhere and like most women I rocked that style for months. But now, the look is skinny pencil pants. If I am not mistaken, J.Crew started the look with “Pixie pants” many years ago and every other designer followed. Basically these pants have different names…aka peg, pencil, pixie, slim ankle, etc. The best part about a trend going viral is that you no longer have to fork out the big bucks to pay for the look. Affordable stores like Old Navy and Gap started carrying them and the rest is history. With that being said below is some fabulous pencil pants under $50. The most appealing thing about these pants is you can dress them up or down depending on circumstance and accessories.

OOTD: Girly Menswear

IMG_3386IMG_3382

The beach does the body, soul, and face good. Fortunately, I spent the last week vacationing for Spring Break; which you might already know if you read this blog often. Either way, I totally recommend taking a week long vacation to get away from the struggles of everyday life and having some fun in the sunshine. The sun has Vitamin D in it and can actually improve the way you feel and look. I also added some blonde highlights to my hair (bye bye ombre, you were good to me) and I love the way it turned out. With warm weather on the way, blonde highlights feel appropriate.

Look how easy it is to transform menswear to must wear; just add a bright color skinny jean!

Harem Pants

My recent trip to Forever 21 confirmed the fact that I absolutely adore Harem pants. If you have no clue what on earth Harlem pants are, stay tuned! I first noticed Harem pants making their way into the fashion world a couple of years ago when top designers started featuring them in their collections at Fashion Week. Now, two years later, every clothing company is jumping on the harem pants train, but I don’t hate it. Not only are harem pants extremely comfortable, they are versatile as well. You can dress them up with heels, or down with gladiator sandals.
I bought my fist pair last year from Target. In fact, I even blogged about them so click here to check out that post. I had idea when or what to wear with them when I first purchased them. However, this year I totally plan on wearing them with anything & everything, and everywhere.
Here is some inspiration on how to style Harlem pants from the lovely FOREVER 21:
Harlem Pants 1
Flutter sleeve crop top, hat, and booties- I LOVE this ensemble and would totally wear it, would you?
To purchase these harem pants click here
This outfit is perfect for a night out because of the leather and chunky heels. Where would you wear it?

For a more casual look, try tucking the bottoms into a pair of tall converse. Like these.

This look might be my favorite look because of the sheer fact that it is casual yet chic! You can never go wrong with pointy toe sandals, paisley print, and a t-shirt in the warmer months, which are coming (I think).
To purchase these harem pants click here
I would totally wear this to an outdoor shopping mall, like an outlet mall or something of that nature. Muscle tees are apparently still in style (good because I have so many) and sneakers keep it casual yet cute. Would you wear it?

OOTD: Free People

Spring is officially among us and skirt season is IN! This weekend I ventured out to the local mall and decided to stop in Belk. Good thing I did because every brand had a section that was reduced at least 40 percent, including Free People. Of course, I’m not the only one to find out about this mega sale so most items were either sold out or there was only one left in my size. Luckily, I did manage to stumble upon this beauty for a shocking $38.00 at the register! I would never pay 100+ for this skirt, but I would pay 38 all day long. My favorite part about the skirt is the way it flows when I twirl. I also managed to pick up these fabulous circle sunglasses for only $2.50 from the Red Camel brand. Unfortunately, the sunglasses are not listed on Belk’s website but I linked some similar ones below. In the meantime, go check your local BELK to find both the skirt and the sunglasses!IMG_3240IMG_3263IMG_3291IMG_3311

Have you started shopping for Spring yet? Monday I have an exciting collab post coming, stay tuned!

How To Style: Tulle Skirt

Tulle skirts are so in right now; maybe it’s inspiration from the ever so popular show Sex and the City, or maybe the newer show based on the earlier years of Carrie Bradshaw- The Carrie Diaries has something to do with it, but fashion has embraced tulle skirts with full force. I stumbled across one for a decent price through Instagram and actually kind of love it. The skirt itself is pretty dressy and can definitely be worn with stilettos and a silk top for a soft and sophisticated look, but look how effortless a darker muscle tank with studs looks paired with the tulle… an unexpected edge keeps things interesting.
Muscle Tank: Forever 21(similar)
I loved it so much I ordered black too. Another way a tulle skirt can be worn is high-waisted with a bandeau. Of course, I had to add some edge to this girly outfit so I opted for a brass spike necklace. And can we talk about the fabulous bag? Black and white is right on trend right now, which makes this the perfect bag to transition into Spring.IMG_3141 Skirt: Threads by Love on Instagram
Bandeau: Charlotte Russe
Handbag: Just Fab
Necklace: Pac Sun (similar)
I have mentioned Just Fab before but if you are not a member yet, click here to join.
More colors of the tulle skirt are on the way to Threads By Love for Spring so do not miss out. Click here to check out their instagram, which is fabulous by the way (so much inspiration), and to order one!
Have a wonderful weekend readers, talk to ya Monday for some DIY natural beauty products and remedies!

Free People Favorites

Free People is one of my favorite brands. I have blogged about them before but the company embodies the term “free spirit”. Free People’s sister companies are Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie, which should tell you about the style and price range of the store. Some of the pieces are not in a frugal fashionista’s price range at all, but the trick is catching items when they are on sale online or in store. Belk even has a line with Free People to offer discounts as well so be sure to check that out next time you’re in the mall. My favorite part of the website is the FP me section where people and stylists post pictures of how they style their Free People items. It is so amazing to see the versatility and how other people put an unexpected spin on the clothes. If anything, it is the perfect place for inspiration. To me, Free People style is my style in a nutshell. I love everything about their clothes and how vintage inspired items are integrated with modern and classic pieces to mix boho chic and street style to the maximum. Check out the site here, meanwhile here are some of my favorite items available under $100 from Free People. Items linked below.
First up is this fabulous vintage inspired printed flowy dress. The original price is $128 but it is on sale right now for $69.95. Although I do not have $70 to spend on this dress, it would look amazing on one of you. Check out more deets here.
Next is this Perimeter Cardigan. Fringe is so in this Spring (as seen on runways NYFW) so this cardigan is right on trend. I love the camel color as well, goes with absolutely everything-black, brown, navy, pink. So versatile.
Brace yourself for the perfect boho chic layered necklace. I have been searching for one of these for quite sometime now and this one is a ‘must order when I have money’. If this color isn’t you, check out the other colors here.
Back to fringe again and like I mentioned before, it is right on trend. I wish I could afford this Vegan Fringe Crossbody, but it still comes in under $100 at $68 and also comes in tan and red.
Next is this gorgeous Embellish Band Brimmed Hat that is offered for the rather expensive price of $58.00.

Now, for the two things I refuse to live without, which means I may or may not have just ordered them…oops!

How do you feel about Free People? What are some of your favorite items available? Tell me in the comments!
Have a wonderful Wednesday,
Bows and Moccs
