OOTD: Layers

Long time, no talk, right? Well, today I want to talk about layers. Layers are ideal when the weather can't quite make up its mind. I started with a short sleeve t-shirt dress from H&M, which is literally one of my favorite staple pieces ever. Everyone needs to own one. I then opted for a buffalo check shirt from Forever 21 over the dress because it is extremely windy today and short sleeves were just not cutting it. I finished the look with black boots. The thing that I love the most about wearing layers in the fall is when the wind subsides, I can easily tie the plaid shirt around my waist and BAM, I am on trend and dressed appropriately for the weather.

How to style:

I also love how Sincerely, Jules styles this layered trend: Dress, blazer and plaid

A few plaid shirts to check out:

Shorts + Scarf?

Where I come from, we make the best of the little bit of cold weather that we are given. By now, leaves should be changing and temperatures dropping, but we are still experiencing 80 degree temperatures daily.

However, today things were a little cooler in the morning so I decided to throw on my new favorite scarf from TJ Maxx and shorts, which led me to the essential question: Scarf and shorts, yes or no? I am not one to rock this trend very often, but this morning it felt completely appropriate.

Other instances when shorts and a scarf works:

My favorite look is this one; how chic does shorts and a scarf look styled with a black blazer? This outfit proves that combining two completely different pieces can be so rewarding if styled correctly.

Next time you step outside and the weather is a little cool but you know of a possibility of it warming up, opt for shorts and a scarf!

Perfect Pumpkin

Today, I started decorating my house for fall/Halloween and can't wait to post some pictures of the final result. I also made a trip to Lowe's to buy gold spray paint and found this adorable, perfect pumpkin. I was going to carve it, but plan on using a DIY idea found here instead. Oh, and excuse my hair in this picture, I had been running errands all day. And despite what the temperature was supposed to be today, it ended up pretty warm, which I am not happy about. Needless to say, my curls had fallen at this point and my hair was a scraggly mess. But hey, at least my outfit was cute.

Get the look:

Shirt: Forever 21 ($12.50)
Pants: Old Navy ($39.50)

Polished Stripes

Army green was everywhere last season, so much I even did an outfit post last Fall, check it here
Fortunately for our wallets, army green is still among one of the 10 items YOU need for Fall (coming to a blog post near you soon)
The moment I saw these army green harem pants from American Eagle Outfitters, I knew they had to be mine. The fabric is a silk-like material and super comfortable. The color is more of a muted army green; in fact, it is almost olive, but either way-you need these pants.

HOW TO STYLE:
I paired the harem pants with this simple black and white striped shirt from h&m for a more polished look. As for the shoes, I chose these gorgeous snake print wedges from Tory Burch [old].
I thought this super flashy statement necklace went perfect since the top is so simple. Plus, a mini-bun and black Ray Ban Wayfayers complete the look.

Transition Dress

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Boot and sweater weather is officially here. Last week, the weather shocked the heck out of everyone, and temperatures dropped a little. So what did I do? Naturally, I ran for the storage shed (where all my winter clothes are stored), and unpacked my short boots (a.k.a. booties) and some lighter fall cardigans. There are so many wonderful things about fall, such as: campfires, college & NFL football, fall fashion, dressing up for Halloween, ghost tours etc. but layers, sweaters and boots happen to be my fave.

I have a challenge for you: Grab your favorite summer dress, throw a cardigan over it then add some statement booties. Why? I want you to see how easy it is to incorporate items that are already in your closet to formulate the perfect Fall wardrobe.

OOTD: Office Chic

I have not posted an Outfit of the Day post in a while so how about one? Yesterday I found out some really great news, I received the position that I interviewed for last week! I am so excited because it is only a part time position therefore I do not have to give up blogging; woo hoo! Today I went in for the second part of the interview process, which is when I was told that I would be a good match for the job. First, I decided on these loose fitting harem pants that I bought from Target last Summer. I mentioned them in an earlier post, here, if you want to check it out. I figured they would be perfect because they are silky and comfortable. Next, I chose to wear this fabulous Free People blouse that I found at Belk during a huge sale they were having at the beginning of 2014. At first I wasn't going to wear a jacket because it is so dang hot outside, but ended up grabbing a robins egg blue blazer from Kohl's. It is always better to look more conservative for a business setting rather than casual. Last but not least, I opted for black d'orsay flats from the brand Restricted found via TJ Maxx. These shoes are extremely comfortable, yet stylish and classy, which is exactly what you want for an interview!

Field of Daisies

Spring is here and flowers are popping up everywhere, even on our clothing. One of the most prevalent trends in fashion right now is daisy print. Forever 21 has so many amazing daisy printed pieces to choose from and some of my favorite brands such as Brandy Melville, Free People, and Urban Outfitters are right on trend as well.

Below are some of my favorite DAISY PRINTED ITEMS:

#1: Daisy Love Cami from Forever 21: At first glance this tank looks like something from Brandy Melville with its floral print and slouchy fit, but it is indeed from Forever 21 and only $12.80!

#2: Speaking of Brandy Melville, one of the cutest daisy printed pieces I have seen thus far is the Carolina Daisies Top. BM is known for graphics and this is one of my favorite ones the company has made. Be aware of the weird sizing, Brandy Melville's tops are usually one size.

#3: I love love the Truly Madly Deeply Daisy Cropped Tee from Urban Outfitters and I know you will too. Just add cutoffs and a flower headband and boom-instant spring/summer outfit.

How I style the daisy trend: Cream crochet items really look amazing with daisy print because the petals of the daisy match the crochet and D'Orsay flats + a doctor's satchel add a trendy factor!

Shirt, Shorts, and Headband: Forever 21
Shoes and handbag: TJ Maxx

This outfit was perfect for shopping then a picnic in the park this past weekend!

OOTD: Girly Menswear

IMG_3386IMG_3382

The beach does the body, soul, and face good. Fortunately, I spent the last week vacationing for Spring Break; which you might already know if you read this blog often. Either way, I totally recommend taking a week long vacation to get away from the struggles of everyday life and having some fun in the sunshine. The sun has Vitamin D in it and can actually improve the way you feel and look. I also added some blonde highlights to my hair (bye bye ombre, you were good to me) and I love the way it turned out. With warm weather on the way, blonde highlights feel appropriate.

Look how easy it is to transform menswear to must wear; just add a bright color skinny jean!

Stay tuned Thursday for pictures from my beach trip; get excited!

OOTD: Free People

Spring is officially among us and skirt season is IN! This weekend I ventured out to the local mall and decided to stop in Belk. Good thing I did because every brand had a section that was reduced at least 40 percent, including Free People. Of course, I’m not the only one to find out about this mega sale so most items were either sold out or there was only one left in my size. Luckily, I did manage to stumble upon this beauty for a shocking $38.00 at the register! I would never pay 100+ for this skirt, but I would pay 38 all day long. My favorite part about the skirt is the way it flows when I twirl. I also managed to pick up these fabulous circle sunglasses for only $2.50 from the Red Camel brand. Unfortunately, the sunglasses are not listed on Belk’s website but I linked some similar ones below. In the meantime, go check your local BELK to find both the skirt and the sunglasses!IMG_3240IMG_3263IMG_3291IMG_3311

How To Style: Tulle Skirt

Tulle skirts are so in right now; maybe it’s inspiration from the ever so popular show Sex and the City, or maybe the newer show based on the earlier years of Carrie Bradshaw- The Carrie Diaries has something to do with it, but fashion has embraced tulle skirts with full force. I stumbled across one for a decent price through Instagram and actually kind of love it. The skirt itself is pretty dressy and can definitely be worn with stilettos and a silk top for a soft and sophisticated look, but look how effortless a darker muscle tank with studs looks paired with the tulle… an unexpected edge keeps things interesting.
Muscle Tank: Forever 21(similar)
I loved it so much I ordered black too. Another way a tulle skirt can be worn is high-waisted with a bandeau. Of course, I had to add some edge to this girly outfit so I opted for a brass spike necklace. And can we talk about the fabulous bag? Black and white is right on trend right now, which makes this the perfect bag to transition into Spring.IMG_3141 Skirt: Threads by Love on Instagram
Bandeau: Charlotte Russe
Handbag: Just Fab
Necklace: Pac Sun (similar)
I have mentioned Just Fab before but if you are not a member yet, click here to join.
More colors of the tulle skirt are on the way to Threads By Love for Spring so do not miss out. Click here to check out their instagram, which is fabulous by the way (so much inspiration), and to order one!

Barely Professional

Sometimes pairing something unorthodox, like this suede necklace adorned with pearls and shells, with a streamlined piece (like this blazer from h&m) can be surprisingly rewarding and eye catching. I know, I preach about mixing blazers with different pieces a lot but blazers can be staples for any wardrobe or circumstance, depending how it’s styled. Here the army green jeans add a casual yet put together vibe and the blazer complimented by the striped shirt (also from h&m) finish off the look perfectly. What do you think? What is your favorite part of the ensemble?IMG_2825

Schoolboy

It has been a while since my last Outfit Of The Day (OOTD) post so here is the first one of 2014! As most of you know it was record breaking cold temperatures in the south yesterday. My body is definitely not used to that kind of weather so I opted for a thick (but sparkly) wool blazer and a chambray shirt with gold stud detailing on the collar. The gold studs make the gold sparkles in this jacket POP. To top off this schoolboy look, I added green skinny pants, riding boots, and a fringe purse. The best part of the blazer is definitely the elbow patches. Think schoolboy gone sparkly! Leave one button unbuttoned for a slouchy, more casual look or button both for a professional and polished lookIMG_2698IMG_2713IMG_2712

Dressing for School

The first thing on my mind when I wake up in the morning is, What am I going to wear? When I was younger, I would not sleep until I picked out what I was going to wear to school. Now, not so much.
Take a look at the outfit I threw together this morning before class.
{Today was my last Friday class, wahoo!}

Shirt: Old Navy
Sweater: Kohl’s
Pants: Target

I think layers add a professional vibe to any outfit and I love the contrast of this sparkly sweater from Kohl’s with this checkered shirt from Old Navy. I wore my brown and black boots from Target to complete this ensemble.
